Paul ElvstromPaul Elvstrom

Paul Elvstrom has been sailing his entire life in the Olympic games and only a few yachtsmans can contend his experience. The living legend of the sailing started his carrier when he was five years old while winning his first gold medal at twenty years old at the 1948 London Olympic Games. He then won a second gold at Helsinki 1952, a third on at Melbourne 1956 and a fourth one at Rome 1960, establishing a record still unmatched. He then took part at four more Olympics and for all the forty years of his career had always been the guy to defy.

Beside his Olympic success, Paul won an impressive number of competitions, among he has won the world championships fifteen times in eight different types of boat (including Snipe, Soling, Star, Flying Dutchman and Finn) and eight European championships.
In 1996 his country awarded him with the title of sportsman of the century and in 2007, at 79 years old, Elvstrøm was among the first six inductees into the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Sailing Hall of Fame.
